The Glitter of Infinite Hell

Brian Parker Anyone else find it a little embarrassing when a band puts so many effusive reviews up as testimonials?
All that aside, I only recently found Clouds Taste Satanic. Not only do they take name inspiration from my favorite Flaming Lips album, but they’ve also become my favorite Doom band! They don’t hump the same riff for 18 minutes, there’s variation along the way.

voltaire_1 Wow!! What an amazing Album. From start to finish, unrelenting doom, yet subtle finese fused into a scary/beautiful soundscape.
The Halloween Orange splatter is stunning. I can't stop playing this and I don't want to. Favorite track: Wrath.

the Doom Messiah Made sweet love to my lady without a condom last night while this played in the background. I climaxed during the opening 15 seconds of Greed. She looked pretty disappointed but at least the music is awesome. Favorite track: Greed.

Recorded & Mixed by Ben Rice, Degraw Sound, Brooklyn NY
Mastered by Alan Douches, West West Side Music

BANDCAMP:

"Naming themselves after the 1995 Flaming Lips album Clouds Taste Metallic, the prolific Clouds Taste Satanic put a sinister spin on their tunes, incorporating demonic pedal effects, ebb-and-flow dynamics, and plenty of rhythmic variation. The band’s fourth full-length The Glitter of Infinite Hell is driven by a love for four decades of trudging sludge, from Pentagram to Bongzilla, but it also injects the poison riffs of Eyehategod, the mesmerizing buzz of Black Angels, and the post-rock atmospherics of early Explosions in the Sky. On The Glitter of Infinite Hell, Clouds Taste Satanic include more rhythmic shifts in their music than many doom bands, yet there are fewer guitar solos. Instead of being escapist or pyrotechnic, the band’s leads complement the main riffs, adding dimension to the songs. More like crafted compositions than expansive jams, all four cuts on the album are thematically linked to deadly sins (“Greed,” “Wrath”). And though it’s hard to match the titles with the content, there’s no shortage of musicality or diversity in these infinite death spirals."

CVLT NATION:

"If any band could imbue the concept of infinite Hell with a magical quality it’s these guys. The massive atmosphere they create is untouchable..."

DOOMED & STONED:

"Masterpiece is not too strong a word to describe the new record by CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC. Then again, every album the Brooklyn doomers have brought us so far has been grandiose. The Doomed & Stoned Festival alumni paint on a large canvas with four big numbers that illustrate 'The Glitter of Infinite Hell' (2017). This double album is sure to be a beloved addition to many of your record collections (I got mine!). Ready? Time to dive into the abyss and swim through this sonic landscape of horrors. Can't say enough things about this brilliant album!"

"one of the most remarkable and tragically unknown metal bands of our time continues to reach new creative heights."

THE SLUDGELORD:

"Clouds Taste Satanic’s blend of doom, stoner and sludge chords, capacious basslines and drums set an imposing climate that sets them apart from their peers. Each cut here feels distilled down to the pitched greatness of its many influences. Guitars simmer like the hunt during a horror movie and by the albums conclusion, chances are your mind will be thoroughly mashed."

OUTLAWS OF THE SUN:

"What period of the year could be better to release the new colossal fatigue of Clouds Taste Satanic if not Halloween? The Brooklyn-based quartet came back with a new stunning album, The Glitter Of Infinite Hell, which is probably their best release so far..." "it's HEAVY!!!!"

TASTE NATION:

"...this 4 song, 74 minute demonic masterpiece of doom backs one hell of a punch. It’s songs fell like an opium dream turned into nightmare. What’s really cool about this album is the songs sound like the titles they are given. Through a brilliant combination of Doom, Sludge, Psychedelic Rock and Stoner riffs; “The Glitter of Infinite Hell’s” tracks manage to convey the meaning of the songs titles. For instance, the opening track ‘Greed’ sounds like a hulking beast lumbering across the land it laid waste filling its maw in a vain attempt to satiate its endless hunger. I could continue about every track but I think you are going to have to listen for yourselves to fully understand."

STONER HIVE:

"We’ve been following this foursome from Brooklyn since we first spun To Sleep Beyond The Earth back in 2014. And they have been releasing a steady output of instrumental greatness since then. A joyous occasion every time one of their evil sounding work of arts came out. Your Doom Has Come in 2015 and Dawn Of The Satanic Age last year. But those two records, we must confess, did not top their first one. In our opinion. Well, this one does not just top that first one or the latter two, they top every other record in the instrumental doom genre. Holy hell! It starts with the vinyl cover. Letting your eyes wander across the Jheronimus Bosch inspired painting Christ’s Descent Into Hell which can be viewed in the Met in New York. One wishes that the four were in Den Bosch, Netherlands last year during the majestic Bosch exposition. Hell, they should have played a show every night the museum was opened. Four musical art pieces are served on a double album set on bronze & bone color-in-color vinyl with gold & oxblood splatter. Four tales of Greed, Treachery, Violence and Wrath. And all four of them are truly amazing. This is doom on the very edge of the needle! But this isn’t just doom. It marries a truckload of genres in a rock symphony without ever becoming a classical opus. It is however a magnus opus. A grand piece of music that keeps on becoming better and better. And this is not just for the doom lovers out there. This is for every rock fiend! And I do mean every single one of them! Join the Clouds with their trip down below. Cause the soundtrack for everyone’s descent into hell just got a whole lot more addictive and amazing!"

METAL MEAD METAL:

"Clouds Taste Satanic make records that keep you on the edge of sanity, and “The Glitter of Infinite Hell” is another spellbinding entry to their molten catalog. They are massive beasts in the live setting, and this record will provide even more fodder for their stage actions. This is an album that takes some time to fully absorb, but once you do, each visit beyond your initial voyage will reveal different folds of hell that will scorch your body and soul."

INDY METAL VAULT:

"The Glitter of Infinite Hell combines the psychedelic guitar sounds of The Flaming Lips, the atmospheric eeriness of Earth, and the riff-laden sludge of Sleep. To properly enjoy this album, let the fuzz take you and follow the riff as it drives you into a trance. Folding your consciousness into the music will make the fade-outs, sudden stops, and skillful transitions stand out and smack you awake in places and subtly revert you to your visceral, animal nature in others. The band is adept at introducing a melodic theme and taking derivatives on it successively, with each iteration more layered, more intricate, and more chaotic. The songs are at their most satisfying when riffs from two sections combine into one dramatic soundscape."

METAL INVADER:

"Don’t let the post-doom tag in Bandcamp fool you, any non-doom components do nothing more than add, or even emphasize, how heavy this release is."

DESERT PSYCHLIST:

"The Glitter of Infinite Hell" consists of four one word titled songs, a list of deadly sins for a new age, that begins with "Greed" a song that opens with slow deliberate riffage reverberating over heavy pounding percussion enhanced by soaring guitar colouring that is reminiscent, to this listeners ears, of the opening bars to, 70's prog giants, ELP's "Knife-Edge" albeit considerably slower and a lot more menacing. The song then wends and winds its way along dark musical paths holding the listeners attention by shifting through a variety of differing dynamics and musical colorings, its core base of doom drenched riffage enhanced by soaring, tasteful guitar solo's, before resuming its initial refrain to take things to a close. "Treachery" follows and begins with a low slow bass line played over tinkling, shimmering percussion that is slowly joined by the bands two guitarists, the four musicians combining to take the song on a myriad of ever shifting crunching doom drenched and psychedelic tinted tangents before finally finishing in a deliriously superb, and frankly quite surprising, blues groove. "Violence" rears its head next and like its title suggests is an epic tome informed by pummeling percussion and vicious refrains but also by moments of simmering moody ambiance that perfectly reflect both musically and dynamically the emotional ebb and flow of its subject matter. "Wrath" closes the album and finds Clouds Taste Satanic in classic stoner doom mode jamming a crunching mid-paced groove replete with scorching heavily effected guitar solo's, the band coming across in places like Sleep on acid. As shown on previous tracks Clouds Taste Satanic are not a band to allow one riff to dictate a groove and so mix things up a little with clever uses of dynamics and time signatures to add an extra level of depth and intensity to grooves that it has to be said are already quite deep and intense to begin with."

SUPER DANK METAL JAMS:

"Clouds Taste Satanic are here to drag us into the abyss with their fourth studio album, "The Glitter of Infinite Hell". This one is comprised of four tracks that are as colossal as they are sinful, each clocking in at about 18 minutes a piece! With length like that, it's definitely a slow burn (perhaps eternal?), but these aren't the types of songs that linger in one spot, droning on, trying to stretch out a single idea for as long as possible. Each one is a tour of the profane, slithering through the underworld and groaning with the strains of the damned."

HEAD-BANGER REVIEWS:

"This find is one that cannot go unnoticed and one that must allow Clouds Taste Satanic to enter the modern doom metal halls as a modern great because these guys have nailed a style that extremely few dare to even fathom attempting, but this instance leads to absolute perfection. “The Glitter of Infinite Hell” is a record that must be heard by anyone who dares call themselves a fan of doom metal fans because it is essential in today’s day and age, and merely listening to the mammoth 18-minute opener will be enough to convince you of such."

TOM'S ALBUM REVIEWS:

"Clouds Taste Satanic has a 4 track album out now; it is called The Glitter of Infinite Hell. These songs are all over 18 minutes in length, but they pull you in so deeply that when they end, you will wish there was another 10 minutes of each. The riffs are just tasty as hell, and the tone is fuzzed perfection. Also, the bass tone is huge, phat as fuck, and between it, and the drums, lays a solid foundation for the instrumental doom that CTS is so good at!!"

THE PIT OF THE DAMNED:

(Google Translate) "Having the genius on one's side is not something that belongs to all the bands. The Clouds Taste Satanic are soaked since their debut, brilliant and unique they have always been, release after release. Our shot is not wrong and with this new long release, 'The Glitter of Infinite Hell, they are splendid both in the sound contents and in proposing the usual, spectacular and characteristic artwork. The New York quartet thus delights us with another galactic gem, coming from the underworld and heading towards the deepest and most infinite space. Doom, stoner and space rock instrumental pushed to the nth power, without plagiarism or contagion but a simple original interpretation of a wide and varied musical genre, in a unique and recognizable sound among the many clones that drag right the Cloud Taste Satanic to ' entry of the Olympus of the heavy psychedelic empire. In this work in fact, psychedelia is made even more intriguing, mysterious and full of tension, in a continuous flow of emotional states that intertwine between hallucination and anxiety, an infernal journey always supported by an anguish that dilates the pupils and agitates the blood of the listener. "Greed", "Treachery", "Violence" and "Wrath", four incredible songs, all of a colossal duration that is around 18 minutes. 'The Glitter of Infinite Hell' exceeds its, albeit excellent, predecessor for its intensity and beauty. Instrumental music that grinds the remains of rock in the seventies and mixes them with the space and the current stoner with cinematographic constructions and a doom attitude, difficult to explain, but very easy to adore, in a ritual that comes alive at every exit, characterized by guitars gigantic, endless rides and mid-time, and a really exaggerated six-string work. All the ghosts of the myths that have made great the music of the desert and of destiny, appear at the altar of the Clouds Taste Satanic to applaud a musical construction that evokes them, praises them but does not copy them, rather he dresses them again and builds a a new credible bridge between past and future, a connection made with the notes and the original intuitions of these four musicians coming from the Big Apple, in a sound concept that is synonymous with excellent productions and a lot of originality, while remaining faithful to their genre. Forget all the rest and be kidnapped by this new demonic creature, the devil will like you more than ever!"

INHALE THE HEAVY:

"Instrumental. Layered. Doom. Did I mention riffs? It's a musical journey through hell... with no bells and whistles, just glitter. Four songs. 72 minutes. My favorite album of the year. Hands down.
Bow to the masters of the repetitive riff."

WORSHIP METAL:

"The dirtier, danker, more distastefully demonic cousin of instrumental stoner legends Karma To Burn, Brooklyn’s Clouds Taste Satanic have stunned doom fans with 4 releases over the past 4 years and The Glitter Of Infinite Hell was yet another step towards doom metal nirvana. This instrumental collective seem incapable of delivering anything less than the finest doom meets stoner metal riffs and a ‘lack’ of vocalist hindered them not one iota. In fact, the soaring leads of Clouds Taste Satanic act as vocals of sorts, the guitar ably stepping in to replace the void of human projection. It works too, adding an almost subliminal layer that transcended generic instrumental stoner/doom into something else entirely!"

GRIND ON THE ROAD:

"The Glitter of infinite hell is the most mature and best played of the New Yorkers releases. More attention to arrangements is palpable, and despite the duration of more than 70 minutes of the disc, it is never exhausting. It is one of the most interesting releases of 2017 in doom and stoner. Make it yours. You won't regret it."

DRUNK IN A GRAVEYARD:

"If you couldn’t guess from the album cover, we’re going to take a trip down below on this album, exploring the lands mapped out by some Italian dude named Dante back in the day and now explored by some guitar weilding fiends from New York. Clouds Taste Satanic have crafted a dark and doom laden journey through the circles of hell on their newest effort The Glitter of Infinite Hells, an album that actually makes good on the promises that the Bosch inspired cover makes. The album consists of four tracks of well-crafted instrumental doom and stands as further proof that you don’t need some guy yelling about wizards (or demons in this case) all the time; sometimes you can let the riffs scream about those things themselves and it works. Each track is based around a particular layer of hell, though this journey through the Dark Lords domain is technically a bit abbreviated, only hitting up four of the nine. I’m assuming that Clouds Taste Satanic know about some Dark Souls style shortcut’s through Hell that allows it and that helps me sleep at night. They seem like pretty satanic dudes so they’re probably tight with ol’ Beelzebub."

RIFF RELEVANT:

“One of the truest powers of Clouds Taste Satanic is that you do not miss any vocals to begin with. I am as serious as a heart attack on my claim, their music is so enthralling that it first grips and then engulfs you. Once there within its otherworldly musical phenomenon, it holds sway over you to such a degree that nothing else is relevant.”

DRONING EARTH:

"Riffs are twisting, tracks are evolving, air smells polluted, society feels perverted, clouds taste satanic and the music sounds like a truly unique instru-metal symphony."

ANOTHER METAL REVIEW:

"Glitter is a mammoth record, comprised of four tracks all within the 18-minute range, so this is definitely not a casual affair. Like on past releases, CTS paints their giant canvases with a mix of plodding doom, head-nodding stoner riffs, and plenty of psychedelia to go around. The long-form approach to songwriting lets each riff fully sink in, hypnotically so in many cases. And that’s not a polite way of saying it gets boring; the music is anything but. The songs belie their daunting runtimes by keeping themselves interesting throughout and never letting a riff or section overstay its welcome. The room to play also allows for some giant builds, often going from slogging chord-a-minute doom to spaced-out psych-rock leads over their long course. It doesn’t hurt to have a great sound too, especially in instrumental music; without vocals to distract and pay attention to, the sonics come into center focus. Whatever equipment the band is using to get that monster guitar tone is worth its weight in gold with how good it sounds. With good doom metal comes thunderous bass, punchy but slightly ‘verbed drums, and extra crunchy guitars, everything Glitter has in spades. Clouds Taste Satanic’s newest album may take a certain level of dedication to get into to, but for devotees of doom and stoner rock the rewards are plentiful indeed and should not be missed."

HEAVY METAL TIME MACHINE:

"Clouds Taste Satanic is the most underrated doom metal bands of our generation! Released on October 31st of 2017, Clouds Taste Satanic's latest album, "The Glitter of Infinite Hell", offers all the proof necessary to make such a bold proclamation. With mountain size riffs that could easily crush small cities, this four-song release is the stuff that hardcore doom metal fanatics dream about!! The average length of each track is 18 minutes and thanks to some truly unholy guitar work it is every bit as nightmarish as it's sick artwork suggests!! For the life of me I cannot understand why this instrumental doom act is not more well known. Really all it would take is one listen to a track like "Treachery" to rope more fans in! Limited to a mere 100 CD copies, "The Glitter of Infinite Hell" is the best release so far from Clouds Taste Satanic. It is extremely tight, well thought out, and chock full of incredible moments that will make you fall in love all over again with doom metal! If this masterpiece of a recording isn't in your personal music collection then you have no right to call yourself a doom metal fan! This golden gem is a 10 out of 10/ A+ release!!"

FRIEDHOF MAGAZINE (Google Translate):

"the influences of CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC take you on a journey through time, retreating and advancing decades at the mercy of your needs, yes, your own harvest is fantastically balanced at the same moment that you decided to suppress the vocal tasks and give free rein to all the maremágnum that wraps this type of bands. Without further ado, the thing passes like an instrumental disc overflowing with familiar patterns within the Doom family tree, all in a very simple way and embellishing it justly, without embarrassment and without any complication. Its internal influence is a showcase within the aforementioned genre that ends up shining with its own light, indeed, even with adjectives where drag patterns and psychedelia play wide and important cards in their extensive game."

MASTERSLAND (Google Translate)

"Instrumental doom stoner. I listened to this command earlier, but was very interested to listen to it again, from real disks in the best quality. Comparisons with vile MPZ - no. Bottom here decide !!! I will say more, I will review the discography like this - separately, far and wide, not observing the chronology. That's more interesting. Sabzhevy is the last album of the 17th year. From the 13th onwards, this four, which refused from the human voice, sculpts doom. In favor of non-human guitar solos. Therefore, those who are tuned to a wave of desperate PSYCHODELIA to the best of doom means above the roof!
By the way, it is immediately noticeable that this cover is designed for vinyl. So it is - the disc is released by another Kinda Like Music office also on the disc. On the cover used one of the divine creations of Bosch. Looks very cool. Well, you know that Bosch is the best artist for metal in general. Carefully listen to 74 minutes doom experience. It's worth it. Specials in the know. Well, for example, in Maryland in the summer of DOOM fest. And CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC is there. Will play together with other monsters of the slow genre of about 20. And as if in the middle of the list, - so cozy attached.
Recently I once repeated, if you do not notice that there is no vocal in this piece, it means you can do without it. It was different here, desperately longed for a human voice for the first few minutes, and then started flinching. Started to sing GUITAR. And so on were honored. I will say more, the solo string player does not do this often, as if on purpose, every time it shocks the listener in order to make him tremble and fall down ...CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC plans and produces the classic blues doom architecture. At first it will seem to you not fervent and not playful. And so it is. Another thing is that the listener quickly falls into the black hole of a doom stoner, and there exists more than an hour. And in a dark space, everything is as clear as possible - both feigned gloom and coldness of the night - but not despair, cigarette smoke rushes into the upper layers of the atmosphere, and from there soft and shaped riffs fall as ordered. Take for example the tractor tractor Wrath. The melancholic pseudo-acoustic guitar starts, it is intercepted by our megaton rhythm section, which provides a pontoon ferry for the listener. He stumbles, stumbles over a thick carpet covering, and suddenly - such a standing solyak - like a candle flame - is characteristic, really telling, about something his own, guitar. Here you know the composition for 19 minutes, and in the case of graceless performers, she would have managed to rock her to vomit of any listener. But these exclamations are not in our cashier. Here, excuse me, once again went solyak, crushed, strangled, really suffocating. Because life is becoming more mysterious, as in a good detective story. This non-normative guest will still declare, showing his vitality, and then the character. All I think, where is the rage ... you will be and rage. But while the guitar player makes sounds of voices, may, however, and not human, but an integral part of this track, replacing the vocal part. This is how I argue. For successfully connecting the cash component base to the existing assemblage point (as Casanedovsky Don Juan would say).
Remember! For better listening and travel on this long disc, it would be better to have a card, at least in the form of a booklet of this compact. In order not to get lost. In full carousel doom otkhodnyake."

WORLD OF METAL MAGAZINE:

"What witchcraft is this that has hidden this band of stoner / instrumental doom during the last years? With a rhythm of an album by year, except in 2018 (this is 2017), the band features four logos themes, each almost in the twenty minutes, and is an authentic trip of the one we like, that makes us forget everything else - riffs, solos, only this matters. I would not say that it is a faithful portrayal of hell ... until for us, it is precisely the opposite. If hell were like that ... it would be a lot nicer. [9/10]"

(Reissue): "I love this band. The Clouds Taste Satanic are one of those bands that have everything to make me rock like a big guy. Groove, dragged and long themes, but far from boring and an ability to circumvent the effect of time. Of course, this description serves both to say what I like about them and to describe what many hate in music. It is not easy to make instrumental music, just as it is not good doom, but to do instrumental doom with themes of almost twenty minutes and do it well. Okay, it was only released three years ago, but taking into account that it is another opportunity to pick up the CD and / or vinyl, there is really no way to fix defects." 9/10

WRITTEN IN STONE DIMENSION:

"The four boys from New York have drawn their lifeblood to conceive the four works created so far. With demonic tendencies and tackling dark and muddy musical themes, Steve, Sean, Greg and Brian have managed to conceive, between riffs and guitar solos, a lugubrious atmosphere that will attract all forms of curiosity, entering the most intimate sphere of the Brooklyn band."

FLYING FIDDLESTICKS:

"There are four songs on this album, “Greed,” “Treachery,” “Violence,” and “Wrath,” each running in the 18 minute range. It begins and ends with a deadly sin, and in the middle we have betrayal and (presumably) bloodshed. I’d say these certainly go together thematically. The music in every song calls out to form a Golem that carries out the deed, an avatar that conjures the elemental essence of the concept."

SHY KENNEDY:

"Refreshing and evil."
