"Whoever thought that famed Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metallers Clouds Taste Satanic would release an EP full of Christmas Covers but all done with a sinister and wicked Doomedelic twist. Well, here we are with All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul with Clouds Taste Satanic performing their own twisted versions of festive classic hits such as All I Want For Christmas Is You, You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch and Little Drummer Boy. Though the main surprise is playing a cover of the Spinal Tap classic Christmas With The Devil, well it wouldn’t be a festive Heavy Metal release without a true HEAVY METAL FESTIVE song.
Clouds Taste Satanic bring their instrumental magic with their fantastic demented style of Doom/Stoner Metal Riff wizardry which works amazingly well on All I Want For Christmas Is You and Little Drummer Boy. You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch is a cool Post-Doom/Stoner Metal offering with a subtle Sludge Rock groove appearing within the more memorable heavier moments of the track. Jeez, Clouds Taste Satanic even add a Thrash Metal sound to certain parts of the track with a classic 80’s Heavy Metal appetite which makes up for some of the most interesting parts of the whole EP.
Christmas With The Devil is where Clouds Taste Satanic can be their most outlandish and sinister best with a classic Proto-Metal, Psych Rock and Proto-Doom sound appearing with moments of pure RAWK & ROLL excess which exhibits proper 1970’s outlandish guitar riffs that showcases once again why Clouds Taste Satanic are one of the most definitive Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal bands currently playing within the underground scene.
All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul is the one and only true Christmas release you need this year. This is an EP that does something wholly original with the actual source material and makes you want to hear more from Clouds Taste Satanic playing festive classics. And I’m a fully paid up member of the “BAH HUMBUG” crew. Fantastic stuff…."

Alone, as in lost in the dark woods and chased by a serial killer, as you beg and plead for your life. You get the point."

"something genuinely entertaining: a four-track offering from Brooklyn doom band Clouds Taste Satanic, who have put the dark riffing aside – sort of – for a festive offering called All I Want for Christmas is Your Soul. Ho ho ho. As the title suggests, the opening and main track is a metalised version of that unavoidable Mariah Carey song, here presented as an instrumental that sounds weirdly very much like one of the festive rock ‘n’ roll classics of the early 1970s – think Slade, Wizzard or The Wombles – that perhaps shows why Carey’s song has become one of the definitive tunes of the season. It’s got a timeless tune at the heart of it and adapts itself to whatever form of music that you care to transform it into – much as Merry Christmas Everyone or I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day had before it. The song, as presented here, is glam-pop brilliance, an odd thing to say about a band that we might normally expect to be playing murkily heavy occultist sloggers. It’s quite the thing."

"this whole EP is the perfect soundtrack to that couple of hours on Christmas Day, when you’re in the void between meat sweats and getting your second wind (metaphorically speaking – physically, you’re already preparing for the epic wind that will shortly be exiting your body). So, to sum up. I don’t like Doom, but Christmas Doom is definitely on my nice list! Merry Christmas one and all! 9/10"

NEW NOISE:

"This is an instrumental post-doom project putting out a Christmas covers EP. As bizarre as that sentence sounds, it’s actually incredible. It starts with their rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” where Carey’s vocal parts become guitar solos and jingle bells add a festive feel to the tune that contrasts beautifully with the metal elements of this band. Then comes their take on “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” which adapts very nicely to a doom metal style as the guitars, once again, play the vocal melodies as solos.

Next up is a version of Spinal Tap’s “Christmas With the Devil,” complete with the intro from “Carol of the Bells” like the original Spinal Tap version. Admittedly, a comedy-metal band is a little easier to convert into a post-doom song than pop songs, so this one isn’t as much of a challenge but it’s still pulled off just as well as the others. Finally, the band gives their take on the classic Christmas tune “Little Drummer Boy,” which dates back to the 1940s and was first recorded by the von Trapp Family Singers—yes, the ones who The Sound of Music is about. CTS perfectly transforms the song with long, droning bass and mesmerizing guitar solos. If you’re looking to get into the Christmas spirit while still staying metal af, I highly recommend this EP."
