DOOMED & STONED:

"I imagine every morbid soul among us has thought about it at one time: the soundtrack to your funeral. Not, it’s not odd at all. Not in the slightest. Layne Staley had a premonition of his own graveside burial in the song “Rain When I Day.” And no less a personage than Sir Elton John wrote “Funeral For A Friend” after thinking what he’d want to have played at his own funeral. The song was published in ‘73 as part of his magnum opus, the double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which also included “Bennie and the Jets” and “Candle in the Wind.”
“Funeral For A Friend” is a beautiful, heartfelt number – one of the greats that could easily be mangled in a round of too-drunk bar room karaoke or made to sound trite as muzak while you’re doing your grocery shopping. A risky choice indeed for CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC’s first foray into the world of the cover song – especially when paired with the austere, but no less inspiring tone poem Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss. Both tracks, you’ll be happy to hear, translate elegantly to the medium of instrumental post-doom, thanks to a brilliant arrangement by Clouds Taste Satanic, with every detail, every phrase performed with a deft touch. These are the first of eight covers tackled by Clouds Taste Satanic in their The Satanic Single Series, which will be issued as four 7" records on the Kinda Like Music label."

OUTLAWS OF THE SUN:

"Funeral For A Friend shouldn’t really work as a Metal Cover but CTS pull off the unthinkable and have made a stunning rendition of a classic song and almost making it their own. The song is gloomy and majestic as hell with heavy doomed out riffs that are played at a cool slow pace. The song is quite emotional and it has to be. A stunning cover that demands your undivided attention."

"Clouds Taste Satanic (CTS) are back with Volume 2 of their The Satanic Singles Series and this time CTS have the Godfathers Of Doom and Heavy Metal in their sights with the first cover of the EP. As Black Sabbath now get the Instrumental Doom Metal treatment and with 2020 being a special year for that legendary band. CTS have chosen one of the lesser known tracks from Black Sabbath classic debut album with Beyond The Wall Of Sheep being played as strictly a Doom Metal song. This version matches the gloominess and heaviness of the original but with a “less is more” approach which does the song justice and CTS are clearly having fun paying homage to their musical heroes. I originally thought the next song was a new composition – If You Doom Me Now. As I tried looking for the original version of YouTube without much luck and I thought it’s a new song. Well that assumption was blown out of the water when I listened to the song. It’s a heavy doomed out Instrumental cover of that dearly loved and classic Heavy Metal Band – CHICAGO – and their most famous song – If You Leave Me Now. Well played CTS. Well fucking played. Great joke. Top marks for that one. The cover itself is wickedly brilliant and “PISSES ALL OVER” the original. I was never a fan of CHICAGO or this damn overrated song but CTS version I could listen all day. This is a joyous blend of Classic Rock, Doom Metal, Psych Rock and Hard Rock. I’m also beginning to think the common theme of this EP is also because of a certain Adam Sandler film where both artists were featured quite prominently within LITTLE NICKY. Though, that could be myself just looking far too much into things. Anyway, here’s another slice of excellent covers given the Instrumental Doom Metal makeover and I don’t think CHICAGO could never ROCK HARD as this. Horns In The Air!!!!"

"Lets get down to business with Cecilia Ann and Rock Music. This is an excellent cover from CTS and they play another winning blend of Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal that is quite louder and more aggressive compared to the original with the added bonus of Rock Music being one of the best PIXIES covers I've heard in a long time. The cover is direct and the doom riffs are quite potent and this is a different beast compared to the original. Blew is another interesting cover from CTS and I expected the guys to cover one of Nirvana’s more well-known hits but this is perhaps the best cover on the The Satanic Singles Series so far. The heavy BASS guitar undeniably makes itself known before the heavy drums and guitars appear and the song moves at it’s own delirious and addictive pace. The song is slightly longer than the original which allows CTS to play a more doomier and down-turned version but you can still tell what the song actually is. This is another great release from Clouds Taste Satanic. We only have one more release left and as always it will be good to know what songs will the guys be playing next."

STATE OF GUITARS:

"For the new release, the cover art comes from Alexander Goulet (APES), who worked with Carnifex, Dopethrone, Napalm Death, Thy Art Is Murder and Meet The Mailman. And the two tracks they chose very advisedly. Number one “Funeral For A Friend” by Elton John is probably one of the most outstanding examples on how phenomenal a song can work in another genre. The song, that is epic anyway, wins even more in beautiful gloominess and is a tonal enjoyment. The great guitar work somehow reminds of the time it was written and other bands like the one of the recently passed Eddie Van Halen. Plus the band released a video with scenes from the movie “Rock Star“. As B-side of the single, Clouds Taste Satanic chose an even more special song, which not many might think about to play in a formation like this. Everyone knows “Also Sprach Zarathustra” from Richard Strauss even without knowing it. Mostly it got famous because of its usage by Stanley Kubrick. And in this special version, it unfolds some new impact. What else the band has planned, will remain interesting."

KOBZR MAGAZINE:

"The two compositions "Funeral For A Friend" and "Also Sprach Zarathustra" should be mentioned here as examples of the coherent diversity of CLOUDS TASTE SATANIC, between small finesse, metallic hardness and beguiling elegy. Elton John's cover, "Funeral For A Friend", overwhelms with its delicately translucent moments that defy all desolation, but wafts over an angry atmosphere the entire season. "Also Sprach Zarathustra", the symphonic poem by Richard Strauss, based loosely on Friedrich Nietzsche, is the second piece in this single series. Well thought out and structured. Atmospheric with a lot of heavyness. In addition, there is a nice, massive, but clear, earthy production, as well as an excellent artwork."

THE PIT OF THE DAMNED:

"Clouds Taste Satanic introduces us to a new musical adventure, this time centered on the musical memories that have been important throughout the life of the monolithic New York combo. 'The Satanic Singles Series Vol 1: The Book of Satan' is a particular reinterpretation by the band of some songs not necessarily related to the world of doom, released in small doses on 7 '' collectible vinyl, with screaming esoteric covers, in only 200 exemplary, licensed via Kinda Like Music. Inside the first volume, we find two extravagant covers, which are revisited in a very original and imaginative way by the American trio. The first thing you notice is the type of sound adopted by the band which differs slightly from the typical heaviness of the usual proposal, a slight change of register which, when listening to the disc, does not compromise the sound integrity of the group in the least. On one side of the record we find "Funeral for a Friend", a timeless classic by Elton John, redesigned to perfection with a whimsical continuous play of guitars reminiscent of the charged but melodic Thin Lizzy album 'Renegade', while on the other side of the vinyl an unexpected, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, or at least that small famous part, fixed in the colossal images of Kubrick's film, '2001: A Space Odyssey'. A piece of classical music reconstructed for the occasion in a guise more suited to Clouds Taste Satanic, for the majesty of the sound, in a re-reading of just two minutes of airy chords in the style of Pete Townshend's rock opera. Returning to "Funeral for a Friend", what is striking is how a song with a very sad substratum can, through expert hands, be played with a whole new and exquisitely rock warmth and sound color, a red-hot, epic retro rock, delicate and powerful in the same way, making it literally explode, exhuming it without losing the sense of melancholy, to make it an incendiary song, especially if imagined live. Ultimately, if this is the beginning of a series of 7 '' inches so well conceived, we can not help but wait for all the upcoming releases of 'The Satanic Singles', anxious and curious."

LUMINOUS DASH:

"The instrumental doom band Clouds Taste Satanic is back with the third part of their The Satanic Singles Series. This time Cecilia Ann and Rock Music from The Pixies and Blew from Nirvana received a hefty doom metal treatment. Cecilia Ann and Rock Music got a louder and more aggressive look, with the powerful riffs. The deep bass in Blew is amplified by the drums and the guitars at a crazy pace. Nice work again."

WORLD OF METAL:

"This is going to be quick although this idea is fantastic. The Clouds Taste Satanic are a psychedelic doom metal band that never tire of surprising us positively. His most recent adventure is a series of singles to which this “The Book Of Satan” is the first volume. It is a single (the old one, with side A and side B) with two covers, totally instrumental - the band is instrumental in nature and it would not make sense to subvert that same nature. This first volume begins with two unexpected covers. The progressive extravaganza of Elton John's classic, “Funeral For A Friend” was chilling as well as Richard Strauss's oppositely short “Also Sprach Zarathustra”, which is absolutely fantastic. First volume, first point scored.

9/10

"Second volume and two more covers, to be finalized on an album later - I don't know if it will be available in a single edition but that will be something to learn about later. In this second volume we have a naturally doom cover - "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" by the inevitable Black Sabbath "- and a surprising one -" If You Doom Me Now "(a variation of" If You Leave Me Now ") by Chicago. Both work perfectly, although I have to say that the one in Chicago is annoying to be so catchy and good. How had no one thought of this before?"

9/10

"We have already talked about the first and second volumes and now we are going to talk about the third which also includes the other two. So if you want to see what's in the first, you can go here and in the second you can go here. For the third, we have “Cecilia Ann / Rock Music”, a medley that emerges unexpectedly from the Pixies, which results in an epic way and even has a certain western flavor (in “Cecilian Ann”. It results in an epic way, it’s the phrase a As for the second theme, I confess that I was curious to see how it would work: "Blew" by Nirvana, my favorite theme for "Bleach", the first album by the band from Kurt Cobain. It managed to capture the groove side and stoner (sludge) that this theme has and is an excellent addition to this beautiful soup of different things that sounds great in the context of Clouds Taste Satanic."

9/10

"As there are no three without four, here we are in front of the fourth single from Clouds Taste Satanic and for me we could spend our whole life on this that I didn't care about. Covers of this quality are always more than welcome. The themes chosen for this new single are "Auf Wiedersehen" by Cheap Trick and "Sleeping On The Roof" by Flaming Lips, two choices that are not so obvious but that result, once again, in a perfect way. This instrumental stoner / doom treatment is practically inexhaustible, or else it is more the genius of the Clouds Taste Satanic that have the Midas touch. It is also funny the contrast between the two sides with the first most uplifting and the second most melancholy. This is the last single and now we have to wait for the album that will bring everything together on the same record."

9/10

INVISIBLE ORANGES:

"A fun idea for a singles series — musically heavy covers of spiritually heavy music, and done in plodding doom metal fashion as well. Perhaps not their definitive offering, but if you’re a newcomer, it could be just the thing to get you deeper into their massive sound. Actually, “Also Spake Zarathustra” was arguably already doom, but, y’know, without the amplification."
