A Majestic Mountain Records Release

DOOMED & STONED:

"Clouds Taste Satanic is one of the premier instrumental bands out there, and Tales of Demonic Possession is the next step in their continued growth as musicians. These four tracks are unmistakable as being this band, but also display the fact that they don’t want to rest on their laurels, showing that CTS are continuing to break their own boundaries with each new album."

CVLT NATION:

"Of all the doom and drone I’ve covered over the past 12 years, few bands I’ve encountered are as consistently outstanding as Clouds Taste Satanic. Somehow, with every release, this instrumental doom band climbs even higher into the upper echelons of the genre. Their new record, Tales of Demonic Possession, feels like I’ve climbed the treacherous path through sinister sonic realms populated with Hades’ doomed creatures and arrived at the story of my own soul’s demise. It’s cinematic as hell, and it doesn’t need vocals because the riffs do the talking. Over 4 epic tracks, this album is one banger after another, and it begs to be experienced in one sitting."

SPIN MAGAZINE:

"A New York band that’s steadfastly devoted to playing groovy, riff-forward doom metal at an epic scale. The group’s lack of vocals might stand out on paper, but as you can hear on “Sun Death Ritual” — one of four tracks on their new album, Tales of Demonic Possession, all of which hover around the 20-minute mark — they are so focused on their core mission of trudging endlessly onward through a psychedelic expanse that words could only spoil the mood. This album is what we imagine the desert nomads seen on the cover of Sleep’s Dopesmoker reissue might be blasting in their headphones."

STONER HIVE:

"Clouds Taste Satanic are back - this means jams of freakout acid guitar brilliance. They play instrumental stoner with heavy vibes and as with all instrumental projects the question has to be asked - is there enough going on to keep your attention wandering due to the lack of vocals? In this case, the answer is a resounding yes. The guitar riffs are loud and nicely fuzzed, evoking the sunbaked desert sound but with a heaviness drawn from sludge. Drones and atmospherics throb underneath the songs, bringing in some space-rock undercurrents. Hypnotic slow tracks build up with thunderous drumming until distorted guitar start to wail with wonderful psych exploration. They tread the murky path of doom, heavy psych, raw stoner with a touch of sludge riffery. Big, slow, and powerful, Clouds Taste Satanic create some almost post-metal atmospherics to devastating effect. This combination of light and shade make for the tension that is evident on this album. Tales Of Demonic Possession. This is the good shit."

DESERT PSYCHLIST:

"The musicianship throughout "Tales Of Demonic Possession" is absolutely jaw dropping, the guitar solo's soar, scream and screech, the bass lines growl and boom and the drumming is a scintillating blend of feral power and light handed restraint. Clouds Taste Satanic are not just a band at the top of their game they are a band ABOVE the game looking down and showing others how instrumental music should be done."

FLYING FIDDLESTICKS:

"Clouds Taste Satanic is the best instrumental doom band in the land. I have been a fan for as long as I have been aware of them. For about ten years and across six previous full-length albums (plus the exceptional Satanic Singles series), the metal quartet from New York has shown itself to be limitlessly inventive. The new album adds not only to their canon, but to their legend and lore. This is excellent music all the way through, and it is exactly what I was hoping for in the new record. Highly recommended."

SLAVESTATE:

"Clouds Taste Satanic has made it their signature to deliver epic stoner doom built on languid, droning riffs and a repetition that hypnotizes and enthralls. Just like on previous albums, this is done in songs that are allowed to stretch out properly and take the time they need. All four songs here are around the twenty-minute mark, so "Tales of Demonic Possession" is not a quick snack you throw in while passing by. It needs, demands and deserves your attention. The doomsday riffing in the "Dopesmoker" school, where Cloud's Taste Satanic somewhere got its start, is still here, but the material is considerably more nuanced than Sleep's classics. This is more than "just" a massive riff wall. It twists and turns and the lack of vocals does nothing to diminish or weaken the songs' storytelling or emotional impact. To my ears, this is Clouds Taste Satanic's most complex work to date and they are really stretching their wings and becoming so much more than just another riff-loving stoner band. The dynamics and breadth offered in the songs is impressive."

OUTLAWS OF THE SUN:

"Tales Of Demonic Possession is EPIC and CINEMATIC in scope with Clouds Taste Satanic delivering perhaps their best work to date and maybe the best Instrumental Rock/Metal album of the year, even this early on. The production is wonderful with the album sounding incredible from start to finish especially when the heavier Psychedelic and Cosmic grooves appear. This is a must have album. So you know what to do come release time. Add this to your collection right away. This is a future classic in the making."

BLABBERMOUTH:

"Unquestionably their finest work to date and, should you be interested in such things, the perfect soundtrack to getting righteously baked, "Tales Of Demonic Possession" is this year's stoner benchmark and as good as this strain of heavy music gets."

HEAD-BANGER REVIEWS:

"It’s always tempting to claim a new piece is the best yet or, at the very least, one of the best when a record of this kind comes from a name as revered as this. What we’re presented with here cannot be deemed as anything but Clouds Taste Satanic staying the course they’ve been pursuing for several years now with no deterring or slump in sight. In the end, “Tales of Demonic Possession” is a record that produces great satisfaction for all that it brings to the table and the mere continuation of what has to be considered as one of the most striking ongoing offensives by a single band in the whole of the doom metal underworld of today."

NINE CIRCLES:

"The riff, the foundation from which all heavy rock music is built. It is the molten material used to forge inspiration for future generations of rock guitarists. There’s a reason Eddie Van Halen’s most famous piece is called “Eruption.” Whether it’s a sludgy doom riff or a buzzsaw grind riff, heavy music is nothing without the riff. Tales of Demonic Possession, the latest album by Clouds Taste Satanic, is an ode to the riff."

CAVE DWELLER:

"The new album of Clouds Taste Satanic moves away a little from the aggressive and evil sounds that cause horror from their first blow, as if they were changing a Slasher movie for one of spirits or supernatural terror. These sounds, as I mentioned, soak in a little of their previous works, and now they exploit them in a masterful way. Grandiloquent, lofty, dreamlike and transcendental atmospheres, play with an ethereal and psychedelic charge that gives a new air to the band and stands as a refreshing sound wave that impacts with intensity the ears of those who expect heavy and forceful music. We find, in Tales of Demonic Possession, a balance between the evanescent and the crushing weight of doom, as if we were pulled in by a black hole, and in the absence of an opportunity to flee, we just let ourselves be carried away by the gravitational flow."

LA HABITACION 235:

"Many may want to acknowledge it as Clouds Taste Satanic 's masterpiece to date, and they may be right. This new feat reopens the band's musical horizons and takes its instrumental power to the most remote surrealism of our hallucinations. Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular instrumental resources that we can enjoy in this 2023, thanks to its infinite immensity and its recreation at the service of Mr. Riff."

MONSTER RIFF:

"Have we used the word “ambitious” yet? Even for Clouds Taste Satanic, a band known for big, lengthy jams, Tales of Demonic Possession is a bold move. And yet, the band pulls it off with style. All of the right ingredients are here: the riffs are big, the songs are well structured, the band is locked in, and that lead guitar keeps each song fresh and interesting. And thanks to Tales of Demonic Possession’s diverse sound—you’ll find Doom undertones, Stoner Rock riffs, Progressive Rock structure, and Psychedelic trips—there’s a lot for fans of different subgenres to latch onto. Final Score: 9/10"

CLEAN AND SOBER STONER:

"Words? Who needs words, which would take you out of the personal experience you’re having with the music. Which is probably my #1 reason to give instrumental Stoner/Doom a try, especially if you haven’t experienced it before, as well as my #1 reason to recommend Tales of Satanic Possession if this is your first time. This album is nearly perfect in its delivery of an intense but enjoyable experience, fluctuating from dream-like sequences to full on head-banging. There is a long history of this kind of music, dating back to Classical or Symphonic works vs. the Opera approach, and brought to “modern” sensibilities beginning with Mike Oldfield’s famous Tubular Bells in the early 70’s. Clouds Taste Satanic is clearly aware of all that history, and have produced another work of art that both honors the past while moving Stoner/Doom forward."

CLEAN AND SOBER STONER II:

"Clouds Taste Satanic. A part of me thinks that’s all I need to write. I mean, they set the standard for Instrumental Doom in almost every way. But there’s more to this band than that. Their depth of musical knowledge is second and none, and they overtly channel their influences with a sense of humor and wit that matched only by their musical prowess. If you’ve ever been curious about the instrumental side of Doom, I think this album is the perfect starting point for both Clouds Taste Satanic and the rest of the genre, especially if you have a taste for pretentious, overblown 70s Prog."

METALLERIUM:

"Tales of Demonic Possession" is available through the Majestic Mountain Records label and it is a material that lasts for more than 80 minutes that are divided into 4 pieces, with this it is understood that each song is more than 20 minutes long , which is an important challenge when creating material like this and more so if it is totally instrumental, "Flames and Demon Drummers" has a melody that reaches deep inside your brain that takes you on an amazing astral, cosmic journey, etc. "Sun Death Ritual" its mission to catch you is accomplished from the beginning of this song and if it's a song that if you close your eyes makes many images come to you, that's what's nice about this piece. "Spirits of the Green Desert" its first few minutes are very dense sounds, but the rest there are many variants full of psychedelia that make these 21 minutes go by in the blink of an eye. "Conjuring the Dark Rider" really is the ideal closing, there is too much quality in the guitar work, that cosmic and psychedelic atmosphere are well achieved in this song, in this material it is a classic sound influenced by bands like Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Perhaps many will turn it around because it is an instrumental and very extensive concept, but believe me that if you enter here you will not want to leave. 9/10"

THE METAL DISPATCH:

Genre: Doom Metal
Subjective rating: 4.5/5
Objective rating: 4/5

"A 4-song double disc album clocking in at 1 hour and 19 minutes playtime. Yes, it’s doom, and yes, it’s instrumental. If none of those things are deal breakers, then I see no reason why you won’t thoroughly enjoy this. It’s certainly long-form, but it’s not trying to be slow for slows sake. It’s not trying to depress you with an overwhelmingly gloomy tone or hypnotize you with a droning, repetitive rhythm. This is like a laid back journey atop the back of some massive beast plodding along at its own pace, taking you through shifting landscapes and events both monumental and insignificant, solely as an observer, with the perfect doomy guitar tone as your trusty companion."

WEIRDO SHRINE:

"Like all good instrumental music, it is music a listener can get lost in, making up their own story as they dive in each of the four rabbit holes presented here. Each song presenting new opportunities for mind travelling, no matter which other visuals or stimulants your are simultaneously using. Clouds Taste Satanic, like bands such as Rotor, Bismut and Karma To Burn add a fifth dimension to it all; life experience, and the machine-like click of these four individuals as they have found the muscle memory to do this instrumental stoner thing right. They are as reliable source as you can find for this part of the heavy music spectrum, and hopefully will be in the years to come."

METAL INTEGRAL:

"Splendid compositions, technical mastery, perfect production, Tales Of Demonic Possession broadens the horizons of doom and ends up making me love the 100% instrumental approach to the work."

PARANOID PARK:

"Four songs, four fascinating mental, sensory and emotional journeys, four devastating instrumental experiences, four majestic experimental intricacies of progressive-rock matrix sound, metallic, doom, spatial and psychedelic matrix that lead listeners into the unconscious realm of dream, where, in a deep and deep sky, shine all truths that they usually take from the struggles of our daily and materialistic lives, we prefer to neglect, imprison, deny and maybe hide from the looks, opinions and judgments of others, those we have never asked for, but from which we feel, constantly, threatened."

DOOM IN AETERNUM:

"A superb sound with an instrumental quality that doesn't overwhelm you, otherwise you won't fail to keep up with your mind." A record of four spells."

DANSENDE BEREN:

"The American doom-metal quartet Clouds Taste Satanic has been known in the New York underground circuit for several years for their high-quality musical skills and instrumental skills. They prove this on their latest album Tales of Demonic Possession. The album is an accumulation of soaring melodic guitar riffs accompanied by excellent percussion. With a duration of just under eighty minutes, the album is clearly a tough job, but the band still manages to hold the attention of the listener throughout the entire length. Guitarists Steven Scavuzzo and Brian Bauhs manage to give their guitar parts a new direction every time, creating a unique setting for every song. The highlight of the album is “Spirits of the Green Desert”, which unfolds like a flower once after the intro and then layer by layer prepares us for a thundering guitar solo."

daMUSIC:

"They call it doom themselves, but it goes much further. There are musical references ranging from Pentagram to Bongzilla, but there is also room for the dark riffs of Eyehategod or the post-rock atmosphere from the early years of Explosions In The Sky. Sometimes they put you on the wrong track as a listener and they come out unexpectedly hard, but they also subtly take you on the road for a while. Please note: they are not jams that elaborate on a certain riff. As a band they are always looking for the best way to musically build on what is already there.
Nothing is what it seems on 'Tales Of Demonic Possession', but as a listener you will find eighty minutes of instrumental music to discover here. Without a doubt a great opus, untamed and unpredictable."

WORLD OF METAL:

"Clouds Taste Satanic are one of those bands that we know won't please everyone but that doesn't have the slightest impact on the way we see and feel them. In fact, sometimes it even seems that they exist as a way to combine several of our tastes. Hardcore doom metal? Clear. Long themes? Obviously. Psychedelicism and the ability to make us embark on trips that seem unreal and only using the old basis for rock – drums, bass, guitars? A thousand times yes! Which is pretty much what we have here in these four new themes. Four long instrumental journeys, each a little under or a little over twenty minutes. This is one of those albums that we recommend listening to when you want to relax and get away from reality. There's no better song for this. Addiction! 9/10"

THE RIPPLE EFFECT:

"Flames And Demon Drummers pulls you into the depths of nightmares and dark emotions. Sun Death Ritual crushing riffs pounding drums thundering bass and scorching leads. Spirits Of the Green Desert just let the heavy music pull you into strange places. Conjuring the Dark Rider has your imagination pulling you into dark emotional places."

THE SLEEPING SHAMAN:

"Four songs spread over an hour and nineteen minutes, I mean, what’s not to love about that!! I was totally in awe as Clouds Taste Satanic’s Tales Of Demonic Possession just flows so sweetly and meanders along, with peaks and troughs that are pure gold. If you like instrumental music, then this is THE album to listen to, as the riffs are explosive and makes time go so quickly, yet I found myself being comforted and soothed at the same time. A true work of art that will stand the test of time and richly deserves its place in any top ten list."
